Bad Credit Credit Cards Asda Provides To UK Consumers

The British supermarket chain Asda sells food, toys, clothing, and general merchandise. In addition, it has a mobile telephone network and offers financial services. Headquartered in Leeds, West Yorkshire, it became a subsidiary of Walmart in 1999.

After Tesco, Asda is the largest chain retailer by market share. For consumers looking for bad credit credit cards, Asda may hold the key to their positive financial future.

When Associated Dairies merged with the Asquith supermarket chain in 1965, the name Asda was born. As of December 2010, Asda held a 16.5 percent share of the grocery market in the UK. The company promotes itself mainly on price, using the slogan “Britain’s Lowest Priced Supermarket, 14 Years Running” in its advertisements.

Just last year, the announcement was made that Asda would purchase the UK operations of Netto. This allows it to move into a smaller market with a more localized presence.

Netto stores are currently undergoing a rebranding to Asda. Asda also purchased six stores from Focus DIY in February 2011. These former do-it-yourself stores will be converted into supermarkets where local planning and zoning regulations permit.

The Asda Reward credit card is similar to cards provided by other issuers. It does not have an annual fee and a zero percent p.a. interest is available for balance transfers for 12 months, though a 2.99 percent fee applies.

Purchases are subject to zero percent p.a. interest for three months from account opening. Cardholders have the ability to earn up to £50 worth of Asda vouchers every year. Consumers can use this card at over 24 million locations worldwide, saving money with each swipe.

Additional benefits include a five percent discount at Asda Living stores. Also, when cardholders spend £99 on the credit card, they receive free home delivery for grocery purchases.

Asda Direct is a great way for consumers to get the household items they need without leaving home. At certain times of year, they can even request that items be shipped directly to a local store at no charge so they can avoid shipping fees.

Variable representative APR ranges from 16.8 to 24.8 percent for purchases, based on credit and financial status. Credit limit is determined by the institution upon review of the application.

Asda promotes the use of this card instead of cash because consumers can save a great deal of money based on regular purchases of items at and outside of Asda stores, including fuel purchases. For example, a consumer who spends £100 monthly at the Asda Web site will save £66 in 12 months by using the card.

These days, saving money is important and it can be achieve in many ways. Asda offers cardholders the ability to save on purchases, balance transfers, and home grocery delivery.

They can also save money when shopping for housewares and can earn Asda vouchers that can be redeemed for additional discounts. Consumers earn points for money spent at Asda, fuel stations, and non-Asda stores.

Though it is not marketed as one of the UK bad credit credit cards, Asda reward credit card holders may not have the best credit. Based on the interest rate, it makes sense that their credit will not be abysmal either. They most likely fall in the mid to upper range so not every consumer should assume that approval is guaranteed.
